The Art Of A Good Name Squeeze Page

By: Christopher J Williams

Without putting too fine a point on it, creating a good 'name squeeze page' is not exactly easy-peasy lemon squeezy! What's a name squeeze page I hear you ask? It's one of those narf internet marketing terms that really is a little more understandable than some of the terms that are used on the web, and in the inimitable style of a mad hatter - it means what it say and it says what it means!

The name squeeze page is quite simply a page that intends to 'squeeze' a name - and an email address - out of the person who lands on it. In the anti-spam world of cyberspace that we now inhabit, name squeezing is a fine art for many internet marketers intending to build up a good opt in list or a healthy email marketing list. Since the days of the Can Spam Act and other similar legislation in other responsible jurisdictions, serious and responsible internet marketers have been seeking out more and more ways of obtaining legal mailing lists, and the most common of these is the 'opt-in' list, which most of us will probably have heard of - email lists, or opt-in lists as they are also known, can provide a ready made marketplace of potential buyers for any good or hot products that the internet marketer or email marketer may come across. What most of us may not be as familiar with, is the terminology used to described the methodology of acquiring that opt-in or email mailing list! The name squeeze page is the term which describes one of the favorite methods of many good internet marketers for building up a good email marketing mailing list.

A good squeeze page will generally be a short, stand out - IN YOUR FACE - kind of page which will have some good hypnotic suggestion or psychology selling techniques attached to it. Generally it will consist of an offer of some kind, for free information, a free resource or something of that nature, which in order to obtain, the recipient must provide a name and valid email address.

A name squeeze page will contain a HTML FORM, generally consisting only of a couple of boxes to insert your name and email address and a 'send it' button. On many sites the form may also be triggered on entry to the page as a 'pop-up' type addition to the page. Various techniques and new methods are forever being dreamed up by marketers to make their method 'unique' and interesting, even if it is only for a short period of time that it remains unique on the web!

A good squeeze page will be short and straight to the point with no other distracting information on it. It is there to serve one purpose, and one purpose only, and that is to force the user to make an instant decision, so it must be short, well written, catchy and very alluring! It is intended to provoke an immediate response. It will use good 'killer-ad' or copyrighting techniques to compel the user to respond, and the offer must be consistent with what the user is searching for. Name squeeze pages are usually setup and targeted using specific products or niche market areas. For example, a squeeze page could be designed and aimed at 'poker players' by offering a free cheat report or some other alluring feature which would be of interest to that target group. The intention of the email marketer setting up the squeeze will be to later send out mail shots with poker / gambling related products, cash bonuses or other offers related to whatever products or affiliations the marketer has.
